A Comprehensive Analysis of SOLID's Weld Neck Flange Inspection and Acceptance System

2026-08-26

In modern piping systems, the Weld Neck Flange serves as a critical component for connecting high-pressure and high-temperature pipelines. Its quality directly impacts the safe operation and sealing performance of the entire pipeline network. As a professional supplier in the global pipe fittings industry, SOLID has always regarded quality control as the lifeline of our enterprise. We have established a comprehensive quality assurance system that covers raw material intake, production processes, finished product inspection, and final delivery acceptance—ensuring that every flange leaving our factory meets international standards and provides reliable support for our global clients.

1. Raw Material Intake: The First Gate of Quality Assurance

Weld neck flanges are typically manufactured from forged steel, and the purity and mechanical properties of the material serve as the foundation for product quality. SOLID rigorously implements the following incoming inspection procedures for every batch of raw materials:

  • Chemical Composition Analysis: We conduct 100% full-spectrum analysis using direct-reading spectrometers (PMI) to verify whether key elements such as carbon, chromium, and nickel comply with the required standards.
  • Material Traceability: All raw materials must be accompanied by Material Test Certificates (MTC) compliant with EN 10204 3.1, ensuring complete traceability from the steel heat number to the finished flange.
  • Initial Mechanical Property Verification: We perform sampling tests on basic properties such as tensile strength (> 485 MPa) and hardness (HB180-220) to ensure the base material is qualified.

2. Manufacturing Process: Multi-Dimensional Quality Monitoring

During production, SOLID implements strict process control, with a focus on the following key stages:

  • Forging and Heat Treatment: For special materials, heat treatment processes directly affect the material's microstructure. SOLID uses standardized normalizing and tempering treatments and maintains complete heat number and heat treatment records to ensure material properties meet design requirements.
  • Precision Machining: Using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) for 3D modeling and comparison of flange outside diameter, inside diameter, thickness, hub height, and bolt hole center distance, strictly judging tolerance ranges in accordance with ASME B16.5 and other standards.
  • Sealing Face Machining: The flange sealing face is a top priority in quality control. SOLID requires machined sealing surfaces to achieve a surface roughness of Ra 3.2μm–6.3μm, and the RTJ ring grooves must be free from cracks, scratches, and other defects

3. Finished Product Inspection: Rigorous Non-Destructive Testing and Pressure Testing

All finished products must pass the following strict inspections before release:

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): In accordance with standard requirements, finished products undergo Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to detect internal defects, and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) or Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) to detect surface cracks.
  • Mechanical Property Verification: Critical materials undergo impact toughness testing. For materials with stringent low-temperature performance requirements, the average impact value typically needs to reach 45J or above.
  • Hydrostatic Pressure Testing: Flange assemblies are subjected to hydrostatic pressure tests at 1.5 times the rated working pressure, with observation for any leakage or deformation during the holding period.
  • Hardness Testing: For special service conditions in sour environments, hardness must be strictly controlled below 248 HV10 to prevent sulfide stress cracking.

4. Acceptance and Documentation: A Transparent and Traceable Service Commitment

SOLID deeply understands that international clients often place as much emphasis on documentation systems as on the products themselves, and we provide a quality test report for our products.

All processes strictly follow international standards such as ASME B16.5 and EN 1092-1, as well as client-specified project specifications, ensuring that every delivered product is fully documented and verifiable for worry-free inspection by our clients.

Conclusion

In pipe connections, SOLID always adheres to the philosophy that "Quality is Life." A complete inspection and acceptance system is not only a guarantee for product delivery, but also a solemn commitment to our global partners. From super duplex stainless steel flanges for offshore platforms to F91 alloy steel flanges for thermal power projects, SOLID will continue to support the safe construction of global energy and chemical infrastructure with reliable quality and transparent documentation services.
